Northern Nevada's Old Guard came out in force at Vine for Life, raising more than $250,000 as part of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event, held in the Eldorado Hotel Casino's Crystal Ballroom, benefited the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation's local affiliate. Don and Rhonda Carano, whose family owns the Eldorado, organized and presented the event.
The Great Basin Brewing Company recently won a gold medal at 2006 Great American Beer Festival Competition, the largest national beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers produced in the United States. Great Basin Brewing Company was recognized in the smoked (rauch) beer-style category for it's Smoke Creek Rauchbier.

Harrah's Entertainment announced Monday it was evaluating a $15.05 billion buyout offer for its nearly 40 international casinos. If it goes through, the deal would affect more than 4,600 Harrah's employees in Northern Nevada.
